The Application Process

Step 1: Are you eligible for the Family living program? (between 1 and 11 weeks)

Eligibility for the Horizon Family-Based Language and Culture Program:

  1. I am a high school graduate
  2. I am unmarried
  3. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, OR I am familiar with the Church and am willing to live by the standards of the Church while I am a guest
  4. I am able to provide for my own health insurance and medical care while I am in the program
  5. I can provide my own airfare to and from Boise, Idaho (BOI)


Step 2: Submitting the necessary documents

  1. Complete the online application here
  2. Schedule and have a video call with Aaron Nicholes, Program Director. This call can be on Zoom, Facebook Messenger, LINE or WhatsApp.
  3. Submit a reference letter from a trusted adult (parent, Church leader, school leader)

Step 3: Receive and sign your Acceptance Letter and Program Agreement

If you are accepted into the program, you will receive:

  1. A Letter of Acceptance
  2. A Program Agreement to be signed and emailed back to us
  3. A schedule for your program 
  4. A list of recommended actions to take before you come to Idaho

Step 4: Travel Arrangements and Program Fees

  1. Obtain your visa or ESTA for 90 day travel to the United States (Click here for ESTA site) (click here for visa services at the US Embassy in Tokyo)
  2. Make your flight arrangements to arrive into and depart from BOI (Boise International Airport) during the program arrival and departure periods. If you wish to arrive earlier or depart later than the standard schedule, you must make arrangements with the family, which may include additional charges
  3. Pay your Program Fee of $300 per week at least 1 week before your arrival into the United States

The following are the enrollment requirements for the 11-week Horizon Program:

  1. Video call to introduce yourself to the family

  3. You must be a high-school graduate
  4. You must be unmarried
  5. You must pay the program fee of $300 per week
  6. You must make your own flight accommodations to arrive into and depart from BOI (Boise International Airport) during the program arrival and departure periods. If you wish to arrive earlier or depart later than the standard schedule, you must make arrangements with the family, which may include additional charges
  7. You must complete and sign the enrollment packet
  8. While it is not necessarily required to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the program is designed to serve the goals and needs of Latter-day Saint Young Single Adults.


  • Shared room (if there are more than one attendee per session) or private room (for sessions with only one attendee)
  • Bathroom access
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and snacks
  • Transportation to and from all activities
  • Wifi
  • Family Activities
